The Pastel Club - Apeldoorn
The pastel club is a place where you can gather with fellow students and amateur artists to draw and paint with pastels under the guidance of André Rios, a professional pastel artist.
All styles are welcome! From expressive, bold and impressionistic mark making with pastel sticks to hyper-realistic drawing with the pastel pencils, we embrace all of the diversity within the medium of pastels.
Everyone is free to pick their own subjects and André will guide, teach various techniques, give tips and help you improve your skills throughout our group painting sessions.
If you’re new to pastels, want to try out the classes or just have an occasional pastel painting day feel free to join us for a single day session!

If you don't have pastels yet we can prepare a set of pastels that you can use in your first class. Later on if you feel this is the right medium for you and you like the classes we will help you find the right supplies so you can start your journey with the colored dust!
Do you already have a set of pastels?
That's great! Feel free to bring your own pastels, paper and tools.
Do you want to bring your own reference photo or do you want us to prepare a subject for you?
If you're just starting up and don't know what you want to paint/draw, we can help you with that!
Ask in your message for a specific theme or a surprise subject and we will have it prepared for you. If you already know what you want to create please bring your reference photo.

What is included in the workshop fee?The price includes a visit to our tulip garden (which you can visit after the workshop) as well as the workshop itself. You do not need to bring any materials with you, as our artist will provide you with everything you need to create your unique pastel painting. Moreover, after the workshop, we will pack your painting in a compact and sturdy tube packaging so that you can take it home safely.

Do I need to have special training or skills to take part in the workshop?No, you just need desire to make some art and a positive attitude. This workshop is designed for people of all levels and our experienced artist Andre will help you choose the right tulip photo to paint (there are different levels of difficulty and different photo references, more than 10 tulips of different complexity, varieties and colors) and will accompany you throughout the process, so you can be sure to go home with a finished painting!

What is the difference between a Group workshop and a Private workshop?A Group workshop can have up to 10-15 participants and you can only choose the dates and times we offer on the website. In the case of a Private workshop, you can choose any date and time that suits you by pre-arranging it with our artist. A private workshop implies more privacy and personal approach, as it will be held only for you.

Is the workshop held indoors or outdoors?Given that the weather in the spring in the Netherlands is still unstable, we hold our workshops indoors only to ensure your comfort.

In which language is the workshop organized?Group workshops are conducted in English. Private workshops can be conducted in either English or Portuguese.

Can children participate in the workshop?Yes, but only if they are over 12 years old and understand Basic English.

Do I need to book a workshop in advance?Definitely. If you would like to sign up for a private workshop, the only option is to book in advance. If you want to attend a group workshop, it is also better to make a booking in advance to guarantee your place. If you are already visiting The Tulip Barn on a Wednesday, then ask the staff - there may be spaces available for the group drawing workshop that day and perhaps you can join at the last minute.

I have paid for the workshop but want to cancel it. Is this possible?You can cancel your booking at least 48 hours before the day of the workshop and after that you'll get a full refund. You can do this by emailing us at X. If you cancel your participation less than 48 hours before the event, unfortunately we will not be able to make a refund.

I bought a ticket to a group workshop. Is it possible that the workshop will be cancelled?Yes, if we do not reach the minimum required number of participants, we will have to cancel the group workshop. In this case, we will contact you 24 hours before the workshop to inform you of the cancellation and make a full refund.
